Minor Softball, Ages 7-10.
-Coaching instruction by CORI volunteers. Responsible for teaching the fundamentals of throwing, catching, batting, fielding and base running.
-Players receive a team t-shirt and socks. Players are responsible for their own softball pants and softball glove.
-Teams will provide catchers equipment, bats, and helmets.
-The main focus is the introduction of how to play the game of softball and have fun in a team-oriented environment.
-Rosters are between 10-12 players per team with one manager and up to three coaches.
-The season runs from late April and ends in mid-June.
-Games are played during the week, usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Games typically begin at 5:45 p.m. All players need to be at the field by 5:15 p.m.
-Games are held at Gonsalves Field and Veterans Park and practice location depends on field availability.
-Teams will conduct practices, at least, one a week, at the manager and coach’s discretion.
-At this level, there is a pitcher using an 11-inch softball, catcher, four infielders, and four outfielders.
-A coach is allowed on the field coaching for the first half of the season and then moves to coaching from the bench the second half of the season.
-Batters are encouraged to hit the ball. League assigned student umpires will be calling strikes and balls.
-After the game, the kids line up at home plate and shake hands with their opponents. Sportsmanship is extremely important and is encouraged at all levels.
